We’ve given our traditionally brewed Bavarian-style lightly golden lager a slight twist with new juicy German hops this time around.

Lys gul klar med lavt hvitt skum. Lukter korn og noe metallisk. Lett. Smaker høy, maltekstrakt med metallisk avslutning.

Half pint in the Greenwich Union, Meantime Breweries tap house: Light golden body, bright, clear and clean looking: a typical Helles/Pils/Lager in fact, even down to the thin white head that didn’t hang around for long. Standard aroma of not much (from Helles/Pils/Lager): suggestions of floral hops and shortbread biscuits if I’m being kind. Again nothing to push it above other Helles, light tasting blend of bland ingredients that give a mild hop/malt flavour which didn’t excite or interest me a great deal. Carbonisation as you’d expect, giving it a pop/fizzy zing to it: maybe if it had been drank in a sunny beer garden in Munich instead of cold pub just outside London it might have faired better in the scoring, but I doubt it!

Draught at Greenwich Union. Malty, cereal nose with light grassy hops. Deep golden color with a fine head. Grainy, meaty bread in the mouth, not sweet. Dry, with good grassy hops and a touch of cardboard that takes away from it. Simple but clean and good.

Keg at the White Horse, Exchange Square. Clear, yellow-gold pour with a modest, white head. Some cereal on the nose. Lightly sweet flavor with some grains and light floral bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Has a faintly crisp finish, some sunkissed malts. A decent beer that could use a few tweaks.

On tap at Evening Star, Brighton on 31 May 2010. Pale gold with thin partly lacing white head. Rich hop notes with a slightly nutty, savoury aroma on top of them. Main hop kick is lemon-citric and slightly grassy with an earthy pungency. Clean and refreshing. The finish is fairly short lived. Zingy, lively mouthfeel.
