Brown tinted, good head, collapsing; hazy Coca-Cola colour. Gorgeous fruity nose, dark tobacco and dark malts, touch of coriander, but blending masterly into dark fruit aromas (plums, peach, mulberry, dark grapes...). Rather severe taste, lots of liquorice. Some fruitiness retronasal, all the same. After some time, a mild bitterness creeps around the corner, reminiscent of some spice-based liqueur. Very light, thinnish MF, but velvety texture on the tongue. In the aftertaste, the bitterness gets a woody character, dry and tart-grapey. Quite the beer. Hides its alcohol, but shows obvious ageing potency. Pity about the points lost for the thin liquorice start. Thanks, Sylvain!

Dark, burgundy, nearly black - tart aroma, with hints of grape skins, nutmeg, cinnimon, yeast, a vinous, red wine character - flavor is initially sweet, but this is cut by a kriek-like tartness - spicy, with notes of dark fruits, mostly grape and raisin - tart/sweet qualities, dark fruits and dry finish combine to give the beer a strong overall quality of a good merlot - a lot like other unibroue beers, but just different enough to stand out.

Chestnut colour, murky. Plummy, yeasty aroma - light sweat but mainly just strong Unibroue notes. Quite fruity (plum, raisin), yeasty, malty. I think they really mailed this one in - tastes very Unibroue, but isn’t nearly as good as other darks they’ve made. They need some new ideas, or at least another yeast strain.

Deep red browna le with mauve hue. Alcohol and spices with orange peels. Similar to 2004, but lighter. Balance of malt and alcohol, with a rather drop in taste, quick finsih. Good but I prefer the 2004, wich we having before.

Bottle: Poured hazy brown reddish color ale with a super huge off-white head with excellent retention. Aroma seems like a quite complex mix of Flemish sour and Belgian strong spices. Taste is very interesting and can be describe as a mix between Quelque Chose, Trois-Pistoles with some of Maudite spices thrown into the mix to create one new special beer. Alcohol is very well hidden, probably better then in some of the previous Unibroue anniversary beers. I think they should keep this one as regular beer on their rooster… Re-rate October 2008: Bottle has been aged in my cellar for now more then three year. The cheery taste that I had detected before has faded but the malt and the alcohol are very well balance. This is now almost too easy too drink. I am already curious as to what it will look like in another year or two.

Bottled. Nut brown, lively head. Banana aroma. Sweet, fruity and estery with some almond. Somewhat syrupy, but with soft, sparkling mouthfeel. More dryish finish with some grass.
