A classic style mild, dark and well balanced with a hop aroma and underlying sweetness which, combined with the smooth malty finish, makes it an excellent example of a traditional Black Country mild.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer, suddy tan head. Light dry palate. Whisper of sulphur. Fresh dark malt, minerals. Trace of roast. Some hop bitterness in the semi dry finish. If not for the sulphur then this would have been decent.

Cask, third pint. A rusty tint to an otherwise black body. Brief aromatic hints of roasted malt. Flavoured with tart fruits and dark malts. Light bodied and watery texture, but alright as a partner to a burger (GBBF, 08.08.2008).

Cask at GBBF 2007. A syrup brown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet malty with primary notes of fruit and prunes. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of prunes as well as light roasted malt, which also lends the beer a slight acidity, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish.
