Our flagship beer - the one Rob brewed first and still the beer we brew most of. Scapa Special is a classic pale ale with wide appeal. Ever so balanced, the skill that Rob has so well honed, this beer and biscuity malt upfront and delicate but ascending hops in the middle and end. Three malts and five hops - from Britain, Germany and the US - make Scapa Special a classic pale ale.

From cask at Ayre Hotel, Kirkwall. Served in perfect condition. Golden. Dense and persistent off-white head. Fruity and flowery aroma, with gooseberries. Sublime real ale mouthfeel. Well balanced with high drinkability. Moderate bitterness in first aftertaste, with crystal malt coming later.

Cask at Thomsons. Pours a clear golden amber, thick foamy white head. Aromas has biscuit, orange and resin. Taste has more of the same, and a lovely biscuity finish. Very nice.

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of herbs, grain and freshly cut grass. Flavour of earth, herbs and peppery spice - Slovakian hops are definitely evident in this. Thin body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation. It’s a bit watery and underwhelming.

Cask at Moorings, Aberdeen. It pours clear golden amber with a small white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, citrus, dough, brioche and fruit loaf. The taste is crisp, citric, doughy, nut, straw, dried fruits and some underlying sweetnes with a set finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A rather nice golden bitter. Well-rounded and quaffable.

Clear golden with a thin head. There’s some malts in the aroma but its mainly fruit hopped in character.
