Sampled @ GBBF. Dark brown color, virtually no head. Smell and taste malts, roasted malts, lightly bitter, slightly hop and slightly earthy. Decent body and carbonation. Not bad.

Cask at the 2014 GBBF. Caramel brown coloured pour with a halo of cream head. Aroma is earthy nutty roast , light spiced on the mose. Flavour is choc, earthy roast . palate is a bit thin and low carbonation. A bit watery. Lingering choc.

Recent but much appreciated dark mild with a yellowish beige head and very dark reddish brown colour; aroma of dark fruits, dates, raisins, caramel, butter (diacetyl) but also a lot of roasted malts (coffee, bitter chocolate) which I had not expected in this style and reminds me more of a stout. Fruity taste, soft and buttery, caramel, creamy, gently evolving to a dry, roasted bitter finish. Interesting but not a ’real’ or at least typical mild to me.

Not black but darkest possible brown. Did not like the sulphur aroma. The taste is full of contradiction: sour, yeast, roast malt, coffee, herbs. Nice sweet finish. OK overall.

Lovely tasting full bodied ale with a mild texture. It is mild roasted with a slightly sweet aroma.

Cask at GBBF 2012, London. Pours dark brown with a creamy, tan cap. Tangy chocolate nose, some charred wood. Tangy roasted malt flavor, charcoal, tobacco, light minerals. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately dry and roasty to finish with plenty of tang, some faint chocolate. Too tangy overall.

Cask at GBBF. It pours deep ruby, with a medium white head. The nose is dark fruit, slight sourness/malt vinegar, roasted malt and liquorice. The taste is caramel, dark fruit (particularly cherry and red grape), wood, vinous aspect, liquorice and cola, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Smooth and rather drinkable. A solid mild.

Cask @ Cloisters, Edinburgh 170612
Black, lots of ruby light through, rich tan head
Aroma - soft roasted malts, dark caramel malts, soft chocolate, slight sour note
Taste - soft roasted malts, dark caramel malts, milk chocolate, milk sugars, rich dark toffee malts, mellow, no hops
Palate - very soft carb, medium body, really smooth. Finish - soft lingering chocolate toffee malts
Overall - This was a really nice mild - perhaps edging to a porter
