The very first of the Hobsons deliveries in 1993 and still a firm favourite. Best has lived up to its name and won many awards over the years including CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain, overall Bronze medalist in 1997 and CAMRA West Midlands Champion Bitter in 2012.
The pale brown to amber medium bodied beer has a strong hop character. It's a bitter but with unconventional warm tones of malt that lingers on the palette, the complex malty flavours gives richness, balanced by the clean hoppy finish. A good session bitter brewed with local British hops picked from the farm seven miles down the road in Worcestershire - Fuggles, Goldings, Challenger and Progress.

Cask at the Old Fountain, Old Street, 21/02/13. Dark amber with a decent sized bubbly off white head, good lacing ensues. Nose is malt, toffee, grain, biscuit. Taste comprises summer fruits, malts, biscuit, toffee, light hops. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, some bitterness in the finish. A decent enough bitter with ESB notes.

Cask at the Coach and Horses, Weatheroak Hill, Alvechuch. Poured a clear medium amber with a big thick white, typically English bitter head. The aroma is a malty fruit combo! The flavour is medium to strong bitter, with creamy malt and a smooth creamy slightly fruity palate. I’m not so sure about the bitterness in the aftertaste, but I think it’s growing on me!

Wrote this in Aug 2006 on BA: all still true! This is the only regular beer at my two local Real Ale pubs (they both have ever changing guest beers on at all times). I have also visited the brewery on guided tours 4 times, my 5th trip will be in September 2006. This medium brown, light amber coloured best bitter with its off-white head always looks good. The aroma is complex, fruity combind with hops and malt. The taste is also a mix of flavours, with hops and malt winning the battle over the others. This is not a thick, heavy bitter, nor is it watery or thin. It is a very drinkable, good session bitter and a fine benchmark to rate other British bitters.

Cask-conditioned at the Plough, Worcester, 30/05/09. Deep amber in colour with a moderate, off-white head that left a touch of lace down the glass. Aroma had a touch of fruity malt and some earthy hops. The flavour was much more enjoyable, with some doughy malts with a pinch of chocolate powder, more fruit and a good, bittering hop finish. An enjoyable session bitter.

Cask, handpump at Englands Gate, Bodenham, Herefordshire, 12-04-09 Pours amber with a thin white rim of tiny bubbles. There is an earthy hoppiness, also a little woody with some citrus, quite tasty and a pleasant session beer methinks though not earth shattering by any stretch. A6 A3 F7 P4 Ov13 3.3

Cask at GBBF08. Slightly farty aroma. Hazy copper colour. Small stable frothy white head. Slightly bready flavour, perhaps it is cardboard. It does not taste bad, though.

Cask at GBBF 08. Clear copper, thin off white head. Frankly, a pretty tasteless bitter is what I first thought. Some subtle yeast malt and hop. Nothing wrong with it. The hop on the finish does get better. I can see people drinking pints of this in their local and loving it. Easy drinking with enough hop to keep you interested.
