Deep dark brown coloured body with almost no head at all, and no sound of much carbonation when popped open. Aroma of roasted malt, brown sugar, ginger, tobacco, Worcestershire sauce, mushrooms and a touch of coffee. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong sweet and pungent malty flavours with definite caramel, brown sugar, musty coffee tastes coming through all on top of a big cloud of alcohol and astute meaty flavours. Aftertaste shows a lot of the potency, some of it lost in the sweetness, but this one definitely has some odd and long-lasting flavours. Overall, not such a great beer, and more of a baltic porter to me than a sweet stout, especially looking at the appearance and the malt profile. I wouldn’t recommend this one, especially considering the price. I sampled this 60 cL bottle purchased from Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida on 15-February-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 03-December-2009.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours really dark with no head. The aroma is really, really coffee. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is definitely designer coffee. Espresso? Why not. Finishes lightly sweet, slightly milky and very coffee. Quite enticing. Very smooth. Rewarding!!!

Thanks to Homerwantsbeer for sharing a bottle. The beer pours a dark brown-black color with a thin and fizzy tan head that burns away quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass. Dark roasted coffee aroma with notes of burnt malt and chocolate. Medium, dry body with a strong roasty character and flavors of espresso, dark chocolate and hops. The finish is on the thin side and stays with the roasted coffee theme. Overall this beer seemed more like a Porter than a Stout, and unfortunately not a great one at that, especially given the price tag. Above average overall on the whole though.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Bottle marked as La Granja Espresso Stout. Pours with a black body and a small white head that goes. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, soot and licorrice. Taste is soot, coffee and dark chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel, light bubbles.

500ml bottle. Almost black body with a small brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee and some alcohol. Flavor is like aroma, nice roasted malt, and sweet chocolate and good bitterness. A really nice, balanced stout with a distinct coffee flavor.

Sample at EBF Copenhagen. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are vanilla, milk and roast malt.

Pours like a cola into a snifter. No head whatsoever. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Tingly upfront but thin with a lasting espresso finish. Must be a bad bottle...everyone is talking about this beer having a head, and I could not get anything after a vigorous pour...

Medium brown head does not last. Opaque black body. Acidic burnt chocolatey aroma. Sweetish soft burnt licorice taste. Smoky burnt licorice starts immediately and lasts all the way through, lingering for a long time; wonderfully clear and distinct. Dry chocolatey notes in aftertaste. Very very good. (0.25l draft at Nørrebro.)

sample at DLD - Pours near black with a thin tan head. It has a mild roast malt aroma. Fortunately the flavor is stronger with dark roast malt, chocolate, coffee, and a slightly fruity note to it. I might be crazy about the fruit as I don’t see other recent raters noting it, but that’s okay. The beer is rather lighter than I expected, but still good.

(Re-rate on 2008-10-09, at Pikkulintu an aged version.) Almost black. Quite lasge quickly disappearing tan coloured head. Coffee, roasted malts and bit of sourness in nose. Full bodied palte with little carbonation. Coffee, roasted malts, bitterness and hint of sourness in taste. Coffee flavoured and slightly bitter aftertaste. (Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-02-01) Almost black. Roasted coffee in nose. Also, taste contains clearly lots of coffee. Some liquorice, too. (rating 3.6)
