This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.

Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Aroma feels like vienna with roasted malt but it also has some vegetables. Flavour is roasted and rather dry with malt and nuts. Not a typical vienna after all, too roasted and dry for the style.

Bottle from the Systembolaget in Drottningsgatan. Coppery amber body with a small off white head. Full sweet grainy malty nose. Solid maltiness supports a pleasant aromatic hopiness that comes to the foreground. Light dogfood that doesn’t get in the way, fine bitterness. Quality stuff!

33 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Aroma is bread, roasted malt and some smoky notes. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel + liquirice? Nice balance, not too sweet. Very enjoyable.

2nd November 2008. Clear brown beer made with rye. Nicely balanced malt and rye with the lightest touch of hop at the end. The rye aromatics lift this otherwise vanilla beer.

11.2 fl oz bottle purchased at Lukas KC. Pour is hazed copper brown with a one inch off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of big straw grassy caramel maltiness, some fruit sweetness under that. A touch of nuttiness comes out when it warms. Taste is the nose, straw mild caramel malt, hazelnut and the faint fruit sweetness. The taste is not quite as fresh and vibrant as the nose, but is still nice. Some interesting yeast thing going on with some clove and spice. Palate is low carbonation, thin to medium bodied. The mouthfell is actually a little oily and flat tasting, though is still reasonably easy to drink.

Ambet with white head - strong malty taste, hints of caramelsome roasted notes - distinct hoppy flavor - very nice and drinkable

Bottle. Pours a copper with a fluffy head and aromas of citronella and spice. Flavor is a little weak at first and finishes with a crisp hoppiness. A little astrongency in the finish
