Brooklyner Weisse is a Bavarian-style wheat beer, unfiltered and chock full of spicy esters that evoke hints of cloves and fruit, some say even bananas. The beer is made with a traditional weizen yeast strain. The malt mix is half malted wheat and half barley malt. The hops are Perle, from Germany. Bitterness is low to medium.

I had this as the "Beer Bistro Weiss" at The Beer Bistro in Chicago, Illinois. I asked the served if it was this beer, and she confirmed. .5 L hefe glass pour. Pour is a cloudy yellow golden, with a smallish white head. Aroma is big spicy clove and bubble gum yeastiness, followed by some of the wheat grain. Taste is bubblegum, clove, grainy wheat and a sweet apple finish. Palate is mediun to full bodied, with a silky carbonation that makes it go down quick. Nice enough, though a touch too sweet for my taste.

35.5cl bottle; Cloudy, murky golden colour with a slightly off-white foamy layer. Yeasty and slightly sweet grainy and slightly wheaty nose with a tinge of citrus and delicate phenolic spices. Slightly sour and bitter-tart flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Light wheat- and fruit-character with rather strong phenolic spices from the start, leading into a moderately dry and bitter tart finish. Not one of the best Hefeweizens in the world. 18.XI.08

Bottle. Medium amber color. Estery aroma, with banana and other fruits, very yeasty, with a bit of earthiness. Rather thin palate, and not very rich flavor; banana, clove, a bit tart and acidic as well. Ok, but not great.

Draught on 24th July 2009 at Blind Tiger Alehouse, NYC. Hazy yellow with rocky white head. Citric flavour throughout leading to a tangy citric finish; notes of cerial in early aromas, and generally quite acidic in my experience.

Bottled@The White Horse, Parson Green. Hazy orange colour, small white head. Aroma is wheat, caramel, some earth and mild lemony and bananaish notes. Flavour is much the same with earthyness being a bit strong. Probably not that fresh bottle.

Bottled (at White Horse, London). Hazy deep orange color, small white head. Fruity aroma with hints of clove. Taste has some cardboard, orange soda and banana. Semi-flat mouthfeel. This is quite close orange soda pop ... No much bitterness or spices in the flavor.

Location: Had it multiple times, on tap and bottled, most recently was at the Blind Tiger a few months ago.
Overall Impression: Relatively standard for its style, really similar to blue moon with just a drop more complexity.

Tried this on tap at Matchbox on 8th Street SE in Washington D.C. Pours a hazy, translucent, murky orange blonde with a slightly creamy white head. Aroma is very nice and inviting; cloves, bananas, that hef yeast you know so well, some slight citrus and a touch of earthy. Flavor is similar, plenty of fruity yeast esters, tropical fruits, bananas and clove. Finish is lightly dry, slightly sweet and medium bodied. Sessionable, easy to drink, very approachable.
