American Amber Ales are like American Pale Ales but with more body, more caramel richness, and a balance more towards malt than hops (although hop rates can be significant, like in this one). Expect an enormous and delicious beer. Brewed for GABS 2015.

From a 375ml can on 27/9/2020. Pours a clear deep red amber with a small head. The nose features a bit of caramel malt, resin and fruit. On the sip, it's quite malty with caramel and biscuit, some sharp citrus notes, and a bucket load of tongue coating, herbal, resiny hops. The mouthfeel is syrupy, the carbonation moderate. Intense, complex and pretty impressive.

Bottle at the Good Beer Company, Singapore. Poured a clear medium chestnut brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is woody floral hop, light sweet toffee. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a big toffee caramel malt, alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. I enjoyed the sample that I had but this beer was pretty much undrinkable in any kind of volume and not just because of the ABV.

Bottle. Clear amber with a beige head that lasts very well. Aroma of toffee, raisins, peach, tropical bubblegum, mandarins. Very sweet with as much fruit as caramel. Some spices at the end too. You can tell it’s quite strong, but there’s no overt alcohol or dodgy fumey notes. Bitterness struggles to get through the sweetness. Doesn’t offer a lot for 10%.
