Porter has a storied past and was once the everyday beer of the English. A complex malt base gives chocolate, coffee and roasted flavours, and a medium-full body is balanced with a dry finish that aids drinkability. This recipe uses New World hops for bold tropical and resinous notes, providing a modern, hop-focused take on a style with a long history.

Can from Wine Rack, Burpham. Sour berry and coffee aroma with some hoppiness. Dark and glossy. Thick beige head. Heavy bitter, which mirrors the aroma. Herbal finish. Medium bodied. Creamy (low fat consistency). Average carbonation. Long astringent finish. Great stuff. Full of character.

Can. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Very dark, chestnut brown. Thin, fully lacing, beige head. Nose has cocoa powder. Cake mix. Milk chocolate. Some coffee. Some scorched grapefruit hoppage. Taste is fruity and sweet, with a vinous, slightly tangy bitterness. Light to medium body. A little drying. Low carbonation. Fruity, tangy bitter finish. Nice hopped up porter.

Black with dark head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of earthy notes. Piney hop cones come through strongly. Light roasted bitterness too.
