Our iconic Parabola Barrel-Aged Stout soars to new heights with PaRyebola—a uniquely high-ABV release saturated with rye whiskey character. The journey of this beer began when we inherited a coveted selection of small 30-gallon Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey barrels from FEW Spirits. In a stroke of good fortune, these barrels landed with more than a few shots of residual spirits still sloshing around inside. We immediately loaded them full of our classic Parabola base beer and let them work their magic for an extended maturation period of 18 months. Needless to say, the rye whiskey vibes are strong in PaRyebola which combines Parabola’s signature flavors of black cherry, dark chocolate and roast coffee with hints of earthy grains and clove spice.

2024 12oz bottle drunk 4/14/26.
Rich and nutty rye is immediately apparent, particularly notable for the lack of sweetness as compared to bourbon. But still a nice spiciness, light lead, some bread and light chocolate. Malts a bit more timid, but it's a nice change-of-pace from a glass of thick fudge. No alcohol noted. Lingering fruitiness.
Oh boy, that is something. Rich, rich, leathery, leaden, nutty, spicy rye is front-and-center and supported by a gently syrupy-chewy texture that is rich and deep but not too sweet. Touch of char, tons of spice, dry chocolate and deep licorice-like rye for days. No alcohol is apparent, but it's certainly warming at this size.
Maybe a bit lacking in complexity overall, but the rye character is absolutely lovely.

Roasty, heavy and sweetish with some mämmi, rye, licorice, earthiness, barrel, syrup and chocolate sauce, hints of cocoa, stingy wood and bitterness. Pretty heavy and old skoolish roasty rye overdose. Tasty still.

12 oz bottle from the BA Big Beer box. Aroma is chocolaty, woody, raisin, molasses, whiskey, vanilla. Pours very dark brown to black with a thin collapsing beige head. Taste is bittersweet with lots of rye spice. High ABV is fairly well hidden; tastes like it could be in the 9% range. The rye adds so much to this. Phenomenal!

Two entries for this (Paryebola & PaRyebola (2024) but the first one was entered fire by Bhensonb and there’s only been one batch) 12oz bottle from Firestone Paso Robles Brewery Store my 8th bottle according to Untppd. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, rye, and whiskey with no adjuncts. Black with a big tan head. Flavor is lightly sweet and smoky. Excellent stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Paryebola on 05 Oct 2025 at 21:41 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9. Capped 12 oz bottle from the brewery. Pours very dark, but clear, brown with a slight and transient dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate and rye. Seems full bodied. It's not dry, but not sticky. Flavor seems to be chocolate and rye spice. Dark malt in support. Hint of wood astringency. Heat wasn't noticeable til I thought about it. Nice stuff indeed.
