Furphy is a new, refreshing ale that is Geelong born and brewed from 100% Victorian ingredients. The first sip is clean and crisp, with a subtle balance of fruit and malt to keep it interesting. The finish is smooth and pleasantly refreshing. Given our brewery used to be an old mill, it’s no surprise Furphy is an easy-drinking ale that’s perfect for a session of yarn spinning.
Our hops, malt and water in Furphy are all locally sourced. Because when you’re brewing a beer this clean, crisp and balanced, the ingredients have to be top notch.
Long before furphy meant tall stories, it meant storage tanks. Without the stainless steel fermentation tanks made by the Furphy family of Shepparton, we couldn’t build a brewery. This beer is our way of acknowledging their services to Victorian refreshment. As for how their name acquired its other meaning, that’s another story altogether.

375ml bottle. Cloudy, amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Minimally toasty malty and slightly fruity, minimally earthy-leafy, hoppy aroma, hints of tea, old apple. Taste is pale and minimally toasty malty, minimally caramel malty with low residual sweetness, minimally earthy, leafy and minimally fruity hoppy, hints of red apple, old apple, some tea; lingering, slightly dry finish.
Watery texture, rather indifferent palate, medium to coarse, scattered, prickly carbonation.
Light, fairly refreshing - OK.

12/10/2022. Draught at Brownstone Micro Brewery, Eumemmerring. As Furphy Original. Pours clear golden with a small frothy white head. Light hoppy, malty, floral aroma. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Average carbonation. Not exciting at all.

Can. A golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw and malt, leading to a bitter finish. A favorite with the Geelong family.

Tap at Beer DeLuxe, Federation Square, Melbourne. Poured a clear medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is malt, light hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a light, dry grainy cardboard malt, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Brewed only for the Victorian market? I don’t foresee riots in the rest of the world over that decision.

Had this at the brewery in Geelong. Hazy light tan. Thin head. Sweetish character, has a nice pale malt note. Simple basic golden. Couldn’t get too excited about it.
