Keg at The Old Coffee House. It pours very dark brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich roasted malt, espresso coffee, pine, liquorice, orange, lime and toffee. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, treacle, liquorice, coffee, oily, salted caramel, wood, earth, resin, salt, ash and alcohol warmth with a bitter finish. Full body, lowish carbonation and slick mouth-feel. A big, ballsy and somewhat brash imperial stout.

On tap at Old Coffee House London. Black beer lasting tan head. Very hoppy simcoe beer. Very nice. Some roasted choc then big bold hop finish. Too cold but a pretty good british impy stout.

Draft at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours black-brown with a fine, white foam head. Gritty pine nose, whole flower hops, some dirt and strong roast. Medium sweet flavor, nice roasty chocolate character, strong pine, grass. It’s really resinous. Full bodied with fine, velvety carbonation. Chewy. Decent roast to finish, robust pine and dirt, super sticky and resinous. Lots of grapefruit. Nice. Very bold and gritty. Love that Brodies.

Draught@King William IV, London. Deep ambery block colour, small brown head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity, wooden and some mild floral and ashy notes. Flavour is fruity, floral, liquorice, some sweet ripe fruits. Balanced and quite nice. More an imperial black ipa than imperial stout though.

Cask @ The Bow Bar, Edinburgh 270712
Very dark brown, thin ruby edges in glass, tan creamy head that dissipated to thin layer
Aroma - Piney citrus hops, deep roasted malts, some resin, alcohol well hidden
Taste - roasted malts, piney hops, rich dark malts, citrus hops, bi grassy, soft coffee, lots of stout flavour but very hoppy too, alcohol well hidden, perhaps a bit too grassy spicy hoppy - not sure I’d call this an Imperial Stout
Palate - medium carb, medium to full body. Finish as main flavour, bit dry, piney, roast bitter. Quite a rapid finish then becomes more lingering.
Overall - This is crossing into Black IPA territory, it’s really hoppy. Great beer.

On tap. Pours a cloudy opaque black with a creamy light brown head. Fat and intense Simcoe aroma. Medium body, dry and surprisingly discreet roast - this really is a Simcoe show. The finish is dry alright but not overly bitter. I’d really call this a Double Black IPA much more than an Imperial Stout. 180712

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar. Pours a black appearance with a tan head. Very roasty, burnt coffee, a touch smoky, somewhat piney, light citrusy aroma. Delicious roasty coffee, dark chocolate, mild orange citrusy flavor. One of my favorites from Brodies that I tasted during the tap takeover.
