Those bright, clean, punchy, and aggressively bitter beers that we grew up on formed the foundations of the very industry we embrace today and we’re never ones to shy away from paying homage to those flag-bearing breweries that we wouldn’t exist without here at Polly’s.
New Insomnia is a beer that holds its soul in the old school, with a whisper of the new school to bring it into 2025 – a hefty addition of classic C hop Comet at flameout, before even more in the whirlpool sets a foundation of crisp bitterness that runs throughout this beer, before a cold side addition of Lupomax Mosaic brings the new school flair, with floral and fruity notes imparted for a refreshingly balanced trip down the Pacific Highway.

Can. Morrison’s. 4 for 3 job. Nearly clear pale gold. Slim sticky white foam. Nicely piny. Clean malts. Bit of old orange. Take has a malty sweetness first up with resinous pithy hop bitterness. A tad thin overall. Gets quite dry too. Thin bitter finish. I’d have a Jaipur at nearly 2 quid a pop less from the same shop, absolutely any day of the week.

200ml draught at Tromsø Mikrobryggeri. Clear golden body under a film-type layer, upper part lacing on the glass. Inviting smell of lemony-leafy hops. Well blended hop fruity taste with impacts of lemon, grapefruit and orange followed by solid fruity bitterness to the ending. Fine bodied. Tasty old school IPA. (Tromsø, 07.05.2025).

440ml can. Clear golden, big white head. Aroma of resin, pine, grapefruit. Taste is very piney, resinous, grapefruit and orange, slightly floral with a touch of caramel malt, decent bitterness. Medium bodied. Solid westie.
