Dark Star’s first fruit beer. A complex recipe using malted wheat in addition to Maris Otter barley malt with the new El Dorado hops for the primary fermentation before maturing with a hint of pure Spanish bitter oranges.

Cask thanks to Leighton. It pours clear orange-amber with a minimal head. The nose is wood, earth, creamy orange, marmalade and some stickiness. The taste is bitter, some astringency, wood, bitter orange, earth marmalade and pine needles with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Alright.

Cask @ Volunteer Arms, GBBF 2011. Pours a pale amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity fresh orange aroma. Fruity sweetish orange flavor with hoppy bitter hints. Has a fruity malty orange finish.

On tap at Craft Beer. Clear amber beer, good white head. Light semi dry palate. Nice rich marmalade seville orange. Fruity and tangy with a pithy peel bitterness. Finishes dry with a little fresher orange coming to the fore. Finishes dry. A bit different from you run of the mill insipid English fruit beers. Great depth of flavour here, rich. Good stuff!

Orig rating 3.9 Cask at Craft Beer Co, London on 16th August 2011. Crystal clear copper with thinning white head and scant lacing. Strong orange zest and grassy grpefruity hop envelop mouth. Excellent balance of sweet orange blus bitter zest in the aftertaste. I liked the slight mustiness and soft mouthfeel. Rated as a novelty. Re-rating 4.2. Cask at the Harp, London on 5th March 2014. Amber with thin off-white lacing shallow foam. Zesty orange peel aroma. Bitter orange and floral hoppiness in-mouth with grapefruit kick. Bitter orange finish developing into solid bitterness. Refreshing texture. Rated as a novelty ale.
