Bottle from Cork & Cask. Appearance - lively, big fawn head. Then the body appears and it’s olive black with a slight orange chink. Nose - toffee, biscuits, honeycomb. Taste - toffee, dark chocolate and a liquorice and toffee finish. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a bitter but rich finish. The carbonation is a wee bit high. Overall - it’s a kind of a Belgian stout, I guess. Nice.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Tan head that lasts. Aroma is treacle toffee malts. Some dark fruit. Some nuttiness. Hint of Belgian yeastiness. Taste is fairly dry. Some roast bitterness. Palate is thin, and watery. Finishes ashy dry. Some bitterness. Let down by the thin mouthfeel.

Bottle from Provenance Wines. Dark brown body with a massive tan head that holds right to the end of the glass. Great lacing. Aroma of filter coffee, fig, shoe polish and Dr Pepper. Flavour of caramel, wood, salt and spice. Medium body with a creamy texture. Light fizz. An unusual, interesting beer.Although it hides the alcohol well, it’s not particularly moreish or easy drinking.

Brewdog Camden. Keg. Opaque dark amber - brown beer, small tan head. Airy palate, good minerally crispness. Fluffy mild dark malts with a touch of creamy sweetness. Something that tastes like mellow pumpkin and spice. Crispy carbonated nibble on the finish. Malt sweetness and esters linger on.
