Cask at Craft Clerko, 12/05/14. Black with a moderate tan covering that thins that stays for the show. Nose is lightly burnt toffee, dark fruit rinds, earthy tones, treacle, fruit loaf. Taste comprises light tobacco, dark fruit peel, leather, dark malts, toffee, nutty tones, light roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Ok Baltic Porter, not top draw but a solid enough drinkable cask offering for this style.

Cask at the Euston Tap - London. Pours dark black-brown with a bubbly, tan head. Nice roasted malts in the nose, a bit of burnt wood and dry cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with pleasant burnt marshmallow character, mild bittersweet baking cocoa, burnt wood, dried and lightly tangy dark berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Sweet finish, with burnt toast, toasted sugars, burnt toffee, more burnt marshmallows, tangy chocolate, prunes and raisins. Really nice. Dynamic and very drinkable.

Cask at the Anchor, Digbeth, Birmingham. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is light roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter with an earthy light smoke malt resin hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. It sounds great but it wasn’t.

[Cask at Reading BF] Black with a beige head. Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate, with some of it of the artificial syrup variety. There’s a bit of roasty malt there too, but overall this is rather sweet and sticky. Reminded me of that ghastly Batemans Mocha at the recent Wetherspoons fest.

Hand-pulled pint as a night-cap in the excellent ’White Hart’ Shifnal, Shropshire on 27 Apr 2013. I really enjoyed this brew: very dark in appearance, with semi-sweet malty molasses which were slightly burnt and exceedingly ’moorish’ to my palate. If you like coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice you’ll like this. Almost rich and creamy (it isn’t, but it almost is).

On cask @ Uxbridge Arms Chasetown - Pitch black with a tan head. Loads of aniseed in the nose, a bit of blackcurrant a bit of liquorice. This carries over into the taste, with a syrupy mouthfeel, One of Kelham’s better offerings.

Cask ale, well kept and well served on a sample tray at the excellent pub Roscoe Head. Fading, tan-coloured head. Jet black with a deep brownish shade. Grain and chocolate to the nose. Gently roasted malts in flavour with notes of cocoa, coffee and dark berries. Rounded semi-sweet ending. Velvety mouthfeel. Good drinking (Liverpool, 07.04.2013).
