Cask at the Cask, Pimlico. 06/12/13. Lightly hazed golden with a thin off white covering, good lacing ensues. Nose is floral hoppings, soft bread dough, rye bread. Taste comprises mandarin, straw, bready malt, perfumed tones. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light bitter notes at the conclusion. Ok drop.

Cask, gravity at St Aldates Tavern, Oxford Sunday 8th December 2013 As the name suggests this is all about the grains used and less about the hops (much to Loz’s dismay) still it is very good with the rye easily outstripping all other combatants in this six grain face off, I know this having previously had a rye based beer in the Grapes there are stark similaritues despite the orevious beer being 7.4%. It’s a jolly good effort, looks good, tastes fine, enjoyable. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Cask gravity at Firkin Ale House Folkestone. Clear gold lasting white head. Biscuit aroma. Good. Fullness. Some juiciness. Really taste the rye. Spicy. Some hop on finish. Very drinkable.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell, London, 19 Nov 2013) Amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, toast and dark bread. Malty taste with notes of dried fruit, apricots, orange peel, dark bread and a generous earthy/citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Complex malt structure, but still with a generous hop presence. Nice one.

Cask at the Fat Cat, Colchester. Poured a clear medium amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is weak malt. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a weak watery malt hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Rather drinkable but I expected more from Dark Star.

Cask at the George, Croydon. It pours clear amber with. Medium, bubbly white head. The nose is earth, wood, spice, underlying sweetness and hay. The taste is crisp, bitter, wood, grass, spice, dough and some citrus rind with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot going on. Drinkable enough and decent crisp bitterness, but ultimately a bit sub-standard for Dark Star....
