Cask at the Jolly Crispin during the RateBeer Black Country Bus Bash. Pours clear, bright gold with a lasting, tight white cream head. Nice dry hay and citrus nose, some good dry pale malts. Light to medium sweet flavor with dry dough, white sugar, light bitter hay. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Great condition. Mildly drying on the finish, clean, with dry and bitter hay and dry dough. Nice beer.

Black country bus bash. Cask at the Jolly Crispin. Hazy golden colour with a dense white head. Stodgy head. Nutty bready malt, some bitter grassy hop. Average.

One of the four different hand-pulled half-pints I consumed at the Jolly Crispin while on the 6th July 2013 Rate Beer Black Country Beer Bash. The afternoon began to blur a little after this pub (not even halfway round the trip yet). Light golden body, full but fairly thin white head. Weak nose: some hints of fruit and biscuits but not much of anything really. Honey? Or something sweet in the initial taste, fruity centre with a dry semi-bitter finish. Just above average for me: plus point, it wasn’t another citrus flavoured golden ale, which makes a change these days.

Black Country Beano. Cask at the Jolly Crispin. Light haze on this golden beer. Tidy white head. Light dry palate, softish and semi dry. Marmalade hops. Light floral flavour. Touch of honey. Finishes crisp. Lot of Goldens today already. This one stands out for a crisper palate.

Cask at the Walsall Beer Festival 2013. Poured a clear medium amber with a bubbly white head. The flavour is medium bitter, stale malty and a little warm medicinal. Ok to taste, but not an ale I’d drink all evening.
