At Weyerbacher we've created a Winter Ale that is a must for any malty beer lover. Winner of a Silver Medal in the 1998 World Beer Championships, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is brewed with deep-roasted chocolate malt. The taste predominates with a warm, roasty flavor, balanced out with a slightly dry finish. It's smooth but not cloying, with a warming belt of alcohol (5.6% ABV).

Bottle from Secret Santa, thanks! Deep dark brown color. Toffee in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with caramel and just a touch of butter. A solid beer without any special virtues, but well brewed. The beer is tasty and certainly has quality.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Off-white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim leaving no lacing. Spiced malt aromas. Creamy with molasses and malts upfront turning thin and nutty with a touch of walnuts in the dry, sour cherry finish.

Bottle thanks to hopscotch. Pours with a large, off-white, creamy head and a hazy amber body. Good retention. Aroma of straw, currants, and bread. Taste is malty with cereal and some light fruits. Pretty boring! Lively bubbles and water like mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours a brown with nice reddish highlights and a cola-fizz head that sits around three fingers. Aromas are of grain dust with a slight spiciness. Flavor is decent... kind of a dark malt background (toffee) with a bit of spiciness to it that then gives way to a nutty finish.

Pours amber, beige head. Aroma roasted, cofffee / caramel Taste, nice roastiness, light coffee with spices in aftertaste. Light hop bitterness and cocoa. Light roast finish / malty. Let itself drink, but was hoping for something more of the winter season.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of metal, roasted malt, berries, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of berries, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish. The body is thin. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle from In Vino Veritas in Keswick, VA. Dark brown pour with a medium sized head. Malty dark fruit aroma. Taste is burned brown sugar with rum soaked fruit notes. Roasty. Medium body.

Courtesy of Degarth. It pours clear amber with thin tan head. The aroma opens with some mild dark fruity esters mixed with caramel and mild muted spices. The taste begins thinner than I was expecting. I get prunes, dates, raisins, caramel and mild roasted malts. Toward midway and into the finish a murmur of well blended spices and vague hops make an appearance and help take the dark fruitiness and malts into the after taste.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of pineypower. Clear, orangey brown with a dense, beige head leaving some lacework. Very fruity aroma. Has a very soft mouthfeel - a little low in carbonation perhaps. Medium body with lightly burned malt accents and basically no bitterness. A very mellow beer. 171107
