At Weyerbacher we've created a Winter Ale that is a must for any malty beer lover. Winner of a Silver Medal in the 1998 World Beer Championships, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is brewed with deep-roasted chocolate malt. The taste predominates with a warm, roasty flavor, balanced out with a slightly dry finish. It's smooth but not cloying, with a warming belt of alcohol (5.6% ABV).

12 oz bottle..2004...color is like a black & tan..low carbonation...yummy burbs...a good winter ale with an unsweetened chocolate finish

I was expecting a white belgian for some reason. No discription on the label. Surprized by a dark beer in my steeler stien. Very dark red. Not sweet and has a finish with a slightly bitter linger.

Clear dark mohogany color with a thin light brown head. Dark malt and molassas aroma. Strong caramel flavor with lots of molassas. Slightly astringent.

2003 bottle aged 1 year. Dark black/brown color with deep burgundy-violet tinges, a small light tan head, and a mostly clear body. Aroma of black licorice, blackstrap molasses, spicy herbs and hops, lightly toasted malt and chocolate covered cherry cordials. Flavor to match, with plenty of malt flavors mingling with the dark spices and sugars. Molasses and cherry cordials stand out, with a dark brown malt base, some anise notes. Tried side by side with a one year old Nutcracker and this one was more complex and flavorful. Medium body, but the flavor lasts to the final drop. Round mouthfeel, not creamy, but smooth and drinkable, with low carbonation. Finishes with some dry caramel, molasses, light brown sugar hints, and a dark chocolate flavor. Very good for being filtered.

Weyerbacher has grown well upon me in recent months. I was pleased to have the opportunity to try their winter ale. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown with only a hint of redness when held to the light. There was a large tan head upon the surface. The aroma was strong with hops and spice. A rather pretty and fine smelling beer to be sure. The flavor was sour, malty and had a hint of spice. A bit disappointing really given the promise held in the nose.There were some nice winter spices and a bit of molasses and sour malt on the finish. I found this one to be pleasant drinking and a rather nice but sadly unassuming beer.

Dark brown ale with no head. with a nice malty aroma with vinous qualities. A bit thin, but nice nutty lightly lactic taste, with some sweet chocolate and a light hop finale.

Pours dark red-brown, with a thin tan head. Sweet, sugary aroma leads to a rather one-dimensional sweet, sugary body with dark fruit flourishes and nutty hints. Thin-bodied. Comparable to Boulevard Nutcracker or Goose Island Christmas Ale, but falls short of those beers in terms of complexity and character.

Looks good and smells moderately roasty. The flavor, however, isn"t very full and is even on the bitter side. Watery finish. Not a very good english strong ale.

Nice dark colour, with a burnt smell. Great short taste with very little aftertaste. A great all-around beer!
