Description
The legendary Green Man has existed for centuries but it’s no myth that he’s been brewing great beer in Asheville since 1997. As one of North Carolina’s original breweries, Green Man has been producing some of the beer scene’s most iconic ales. Our offerings are consistently recognized for quality as well as loyalty to traditional English styles. Additionally, our brewers strive to bring innovative and exciting new flavors to beer loving folks.

Now open! Continuing our evolution we have constructed a 3 story, 20,000 square ft., packaging hall, a “brewtique”, and an indoor/outdoor top floor taproom that overlooks production and the Blue Ridge Mountains! It is right here on the South Slope, next to “Dirty Jack’s” (which is still open) and our production brewery.

Tap at taproom. Clear amber colour, steady white head. Toffee and bourbon in the nose. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Malty, toffeish, hoppy, alcoholic (Bourbon). Good barley-wine / American Strong Ale although somewhat simple.

Pour is a murky brown with a large tan head. Aroma is some caramel and plum with a slight oak vanilla. Flavor is a cigar tobacco with some treacle and molasses. The barrel is completely gone by now but the other components shine through. This had a slight dark fruit to it which if it was more pronounced it would have raised the score. My bottle said this was 9.8% so this is a definite winter warmer.

Hazy copper and bronze coloured body with a nice, very fast-dying tan head, only a centimetre tall. Aroma of alcohol, pungent apricots and peaches, a good deal of resinous and floral hops and a smooth, but substantial malt backbone. Medium to Full-bodied; Syrupy, sweet flavour with resin, pine, hops, earth, grain, toffee and a pungent floral flavour dominate at first, with a lot of bitterness from those hops, but also showing some sweetness from all the unfinished sugars. Aftertaste borders between the rich sweetness, the pungent and resinous hops and a good deal of support from the earthy malt. Overall, a balanced and well-hopped Imperial IPA with a proper flavour profile, some nice flavours and that great balance that really makes or breaks beers in this category. Nice to try and very well-executed, especially for an East Coast-based Imperial IPA. Great to try and well worth trying to find and drink fresh-ish if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Grape Vine in Fort Mill, South Carolina on 21-August-2017 for US$2,98 after watching the Eclipse with my family, sampled back at home in Washington on 08-December-2017.

Lovely imperial stout, rich and creamy, deep veins of chocolate and anise with a marshmallow undercurrent laced with oak and vanilla. Black cherry, fig, and raisin all pop up underneath the smoky mocha front, while the back end gives up plenty of bourbon and hops, bitter and woodsy but also sweet and boozy. Delicious.
