Peace Tree Brewing Company is dedicated to brewing handcrafted, full-flavored beers with a great attention to quality. Our brewery began in 2009 in a former Nash Rambler car dealership on Main Street in Knoxville, Iowa.
Head brewmaster Joe Kesteloot came to us with years of professional and home brewing experience and brought with him a true passion and creativity for developing his own unique recipes.
We held the grand opening for our 20-Bbl brewhouse in March 2010, and within a month, were producing and bottling our brews – hand-delivering them to stores, bars and restaurants around the state.
Brewing great beer is our passion, but we are also passionate about where we have come from and where we are going. The names of our beers often have connections to the places in our past, especially derived from memories and places in our community and our state.

After checking out the Iowa Taproom, my sister–my little sister, mind you–wanted to finish off with me and her daughter at Peace Tree's Des Moines tap room. 8 oz. snifter with an orangey brown color. Smell is mostly malty, with the rye whisky settling nicely in the background. Taste is just a bit thick, and there's a fine malty backbone with just a bit of whiskey headiness. Much more of an impressive red ale than a barrel-aged beer.

Taster at the Iowa Taproom. Oh, yes, a surely sour and puckery beer. But pleasant, with tart cherry notes and the creamy texture I find in many sours. Just a hint of coriander, and perhaps some barnyard funk.

On tap at GTMW 2017. Pours a clear gold with a large white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of earthy citrus, bread and pine notes. Flavor has earthy grass, earthy citrus and a bit of bread backed by a touch of pine.

On tap at GTMW 2017. Pours a near clear yellow gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has earthy tart lemon, a good amount of wheat and a touch of yogurt backing. Flavor has earthy tart lemon backed by earthy wheat and yogurt.

4 oz. draft at Iowa TapRoom, Des Moines, IA. Maybe this keg sat awhile, flavors really married well. Smell of citrus, light spice. Taste is a moderate banana, black pepper, with a light vanilla in the finish. Alcohol is totally masked, smooth, easy to drink. Awesome yeast flavors. Medium in body. High drinkability for such a larger brew. Really liked it.

Draft/Fest. A- Citrus, pine. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Bitter, malty, citrus. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Really not too aggressive but also nothing other than bitter citrus. A typical IPA by all means.

Bottle. A- Tart, salt water, toast. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, white head. T- Sour, salty, hibiscus, lemon. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, refreshing finish. O- Pretty much tastes like a saline solution with a fair amount of sourness. Pretty refreshing. I get some sort of hibiscus like flavor in there as well.

22 oz. bottle. Purchased at Beertopia, Omaha, NE. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, and weak ash. Taste is of oak, chocolate, roasted malts, sweet molasses and caramel malts. Very mild ash in the finish. Has a very thin mouthfeel with low depth.
Coffee and weak chocolate on the backend and lightly bitter in the finish. Texture is dry and ashy. Flavor would be good if it wasn’t so watery thin. Maybe has improved in recent years but stills needs a lot of help to be good. Had I brewed this stout, I never would have sold this in stores. It is kind of shameful.
