Enjoyed on tap as part of a sampler at the Grumpy Troll in Mt. Horeb, WI. Appearance is a cloudy light gold, thin white head, looks kind of like pineapple juice. Aroma of light citrus, bit of yeast, doesn’t really smell hoppy. Taste is not too hoppy but also the malt gives it a slight crispness, straw hay as well, half way through figured out it wasn’t an ipa. Light but decent.

Solid brewpub IPA. Big, bold, balanced. Golden tan, rich. Toasty golden malt tones. OK.

Draft at GT. How did I get into a hobby with products that call themselves Free World Rocking...Ugh. Man, they have trouble making Pilseners in WI. Buttery, sugary, way too rich. Not outright bad, just subpar. Sugary, noble hops attempt to balance. Unimpressive, poorly executed.

Draft at GT. Hazy orange-tan. oily thin head. Full glass. Sweet, fruity belgo-yeast tones. Mellow carbonation..sweet sugary body. A Belgian Singel, I suppose. Rather mild, not really even in competition with a true Belgian Ale. One dimensional but OK.

Draft at the brewpub. Deep red-brown. Steady creamy bright beige head. Sweet, sugary brown ale. Hops balance it out, but I don’t know about Cali-style. Roasty, molasses. Soapy hop tones. Thick specialty malts. Pretty nice, well executed.

Hazy brown-tan with a creamy off-white head. Bold and hoppy for a beer of such moderate ABV. Medium, almost full bodied. Toasty, chewy malt tones. Soapy, resinous hop character. Pretty nice, though I had higher expectations. Grapefruit.

Draft at GT. Hazy golden-orange. Thin non-head. Sugary hop aroma. Bold, full bodied beer, with some sugary grapefruit tones. Solid, steady hops. Dry and refreshing, with a big malt undercurrent. Somewhat watery body, lacks the depth that could make it world class. Pretty drinkable for the ABV, with a sugary cloying finish. Belgian yeast tones add a nice fruity balance.

Snifter pour at GT. Heavy bourbon aroma, hardcore. Not real head, just some soapy bubbles around the edge. Mellow, subdued carbonation. THe oaky bourbon really dominates. Thick molasses tones, but a pretty watery body. Licorice. Faded, but still an enjoyable concoction. Might be better less barrel aged.

Draft at Grumpy Troll. Thick purple brown. No head to speak of. Pronounced chocolate-bourbon aroma. Soft carbonation. Big bourbon flavors. Sort of in an English Barleywine vein. Mellows as you sip it, lots of caramel depth. Quite nice, an interesting beer.

10th October 2008. GABF. Hazy gold beer. Dry crisp palate. Slightly hoppy with a little spice. Just the right side of being over dry.
