Super rich and hazy copper, orange and bronze coloured body with an almost ruby tint and a rich, slightly frothy tan head. Aroma of alcohol, hops, toffee, rich malts and a heavy dose of bitterness all around. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich malty flavour with some nuts, earth, caramel, toffee and of course hops tucked in. Aftertaste doesn’t show much complexity, but shows some depth, especially with the malt bill and the rich toffee and sweetness - nice and full-bodied with solid flavours that don’t bitter or make the flavour pungent. Overall, a rather nice beer with a full body and a well-rounded, balanced flavour that isn’t surprising, variable or evolutionary, just a well-produced beer with good flavours that hits the style well - I’m pleasantly surprised. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2014 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on 29-December-2014.

A clear, glowing dark amber colored beer topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head. The aroma is lightly alcoholic, with some nailpolish remover. Dried fruit notes, caramel and something roasted too. It’s full-bodied and warming on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation level. Sweet, alcoholic and roasted flavor with some bitterness. The alcohol is too evident all the way in this one, especially in the end. Too evident for a beer at 7.2% at least. 141219

Dried leaves, pepper, wormwood nose, a little vegetal. Clear tea colored, thin yellow head. Cherries, oak, boiled cabbage. Tangy, medium body, viscous. Sampled from a growler that wasn’t sanitized. It was rinsed thoroughly and the beer was sampled less than 6 hours from filling. I don’t think this is all the growler’s fault.
