Description
The brewery was established by baron František Ringhoffer in 1874. Since the very beginning the brewery has always had a live mascot, a goat behind its fence. The current goat is named Olda and he is actually on the brewery’s employee list.

In March 1999, the merger of Plzeňský Prazdroj, as with Pivovar Radegast, as the former majority owner of the Velké Popovice brewery, took place. Since 2016 it is part of the Asahi Group.

Velkopopovicky Kozel is the most successful Czech export beer according to the sales and is sold in more than 50 European countries and beyond.

Can 0,5l. Pale golden colored. An ok creamy head. Sweet fruity aroma with some malt. Sweet fruity flavor. Well rounded. Some dry bitterness. KI=5

500ml can shared at Finn’s in Tromsø. Frothy, white head fading on top of clear, golden body. Aroma of light pale malt. Taste of mild lemony grass. Some sweetness, too. Soft carbonated. Thin to medium bodied (21.10.2008).

500ml on tap in a bar in Prague. Near black in colour with reddish tones and a foamy tan head. Caramel and toffee aroma. Flavour was very sweet, with a touch of fruit and milk chocolate and demerara sugar in the finish. Ok.

Mild herber Antrunk, weich, ab dem Mittelteil ins Wässrige gehend. Langweilig eintönig, es gibt kaum Änderungen im Bier, mal abgesehen von einer Note im Abgang die wohl malzig sein soll. Langweilig! Test vom 21.9.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,7,7,7,6,7

Bottle 50cl.Clear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lancing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light metallic. (270508)
