bottle, from jaghana - thank you very much! Slightly hazy golden colour, mid-sized white head. Malty, slightly fruity with hints of caramel and toffee fudge. Good!

Dark foggy brown, small amount of head. Aroma is all barley, wet barley, not the appealing barley aroma I like. Taste is a spicey barley mix, not a bad combination but lacks complexity. Worth a try, perhaps.

Beautiful, really - this is what I want an amber to look like. Huge head, dark orange or red, and it’s just sitting there, staring at me, screaming "drink me.... drink me....". Nonetheless the aroma is coffee and burnt beans, murky barley, it’s all rather uninspiring. The taste is a nice mix of caramel, coffee, and barley, but a little watery. It’s an issue I’ve had with a lot of French microbrews - some good ideas but they are missing the finishing touch that moves a beer from good to great.

Okay head, okay bright gold colour. Hops on the nose, plenty of hops, maybe some wheat but hard to tell, also some corn. Taste has a sour gueuze start, some hops in the middle, and a soft ending. Uninspiring but all right.

Light yellow colour, huge smooth head. Aroma of grass, sugar, corn. Flavour is spicy, wheat, caramel. Don’t like the odd fermentation on this but it’s all right.

33cl bottle from La Cervoiserie. pours golden, white head. The beer keeps some similar elements to the ’au bois bandé’ but without some of spiced character. aroma has a nice yeasty nose, malt with a thin citrus and hop spices. flavors, hoppy, light citrus and floral, some spices; clove lingering vegetable/yeasty mouthfeel.

33cl bottle from La Cervoiserie. Nice, a beer using tree bark with reputed aphrodisiac, let’s see how this one turns out. pours cloudy golden, white head. aroma, spicy nose, with touch of black pepper, possibly the effect of the Bois-Bandé bark used in the beer. flavors, spices are present but not overpowering, gives a nice peppery mouthfeel that is warming and blends well with the abv. The malt profile has some nut elements with mild touch of chocolate and light roast, some earthly elements of the bark ’Richeria Grandis’ are mixed with a light hop bitterness. Another beer nicely done by this small French brewery.

Bottle @ La Cervoiserie, La Rochelle (France). pours dark brown, tan head. aroma, nice roasted malts with a nutty nose and lingering yeast. flavors, malty, dominated by enjoyable nutty flavors and coffee that although not overpowering allows the beer to keep a nice malty profile that at times also shows some signs of chocolate. The overall finish keeps some citrus hops notes, touch of spices and yeast that are more subtle.

Bottle @ La Cervoiserie, La Rochelle (France). Original medieval style cartoonish label. amber color, white head. aroma is malty, nutty with some citrus hops, light chocolate and caramel. flavors, quite enjoyable, light chocolate malts, some spices and caramel along with a touch of hop bitterness/citrus. The finish keeps a nice malty profile coupled with a nutty mouthfeel and a mild citrus touch. Tasty, and above average for what is usually available in France.
