Description
The more than 725-year-old beer tradition in Litovel dates back to 1291, when King Wenceslas II granted the city the mile right. This privilege allowed only the Litovel burghers to brew and tap beer within a radius of one medieval mile, i.e. in a vicinity of approximately seven kilometres. In the Middle Ages, beer was brewed in a brewing house, which was then located at Litovel 57. Those with brewing rights were among the most affluent people, and played a significant role in managing the city. Even contemporary Litovel beer is brewed using classic processes, the roots of which date back to this glorious historical era.

Bottled (backlog, thanks Kim N!). Golden colour, with a small white head. Aroma is bready, grainy, some floral notes along with some grass as well as mild toffee. Flavour is bready, grassy, herbal, some floral and mild toffeeish notes. A bit kind of cheapo feelin in a way, but the herbal side of it is rather nice.

(Can, 0.5 l - BB 30.10.15, 20141223) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medum sized and white. Aroma had caramel and sweet chocolate. Palate was rather light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, burnt malts, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A watered down Schwarzbier with added sweetness.

Czech Beer Royal Black, 11.99°, 4.8%. Thanks for this! Adequate appearance, dark brown/red, medium creamy tan head. Mild caramel aroma, dry, raisins, cardboard... the taste is even worse, light, cardboardy primarily and sweet. A perfect example of how generic/ordinary/bad Czech dark beers can be.
