Description
The more than 725-year-old beer tradition in Litovel dates back to 1291, when King Wenceslas II granted the city the mile right. This privilege allowed only the Litovel burghers to brew and tap beer within a radius of one medieval mile, i.e. in a vicinity of approximately seven kilometres. In the Middle Ages, beer was brewed in a brewing house, which was then located at Litovel 57. Those with brewing rights were among the most affluent people, and played a significant role in managing the city. Even contemporary Litovel beer is brewed using classic processes, the roots of which date back to this glorious historical era.

Can (Diky do Černeho Lesa!): Golden, big loose white head; grainy and pale-malty nose with hoppy influences; light bitter-sweet flavour, very thin bodied; watery bitter-malty finish. Poor brew...

Quack-duck is sitting in front of a hospoda in a small Czech villlage, watching the sun set above the local pond. The waitress has just brought him a glass of fresh Litovel 10°. He inhales the perfumy aromas of Saaz hops, mingled with wonderful Moravian malts. The beer is light-bodied yet full of flavour. There is a fine malt flavour, rounded off with a good portion of hops. The glass gets more and more empty at a frightening speed and just as quack-duck is about to order another Litovel 10°... oh no! He’s not sitting in front of a Czech hospoda watching the sunset, no, he is sitting at his desk, desperate for another Litovel 10°, but there is no more of it. Anyway, even at home in southern Germany I enjoyed this beer very much. A classic Czech desítka - thank you very much Hopfenpflücker for trading this beer with me...

(Bottle, Café Olympia, Åre, Sweden, 18 March 2009) Golden colour with firm, frothy, white head. Malty, bready nose with notes of hay, toffee and grassy hops. Malty, bready taste with hay, butter, grassy hops and slightly toasty grain. Generous grassy bitterness in the finish. Some malt sweetness throughout. Not exceptional but a decent Bohemian pilsener.
