Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy dark blond color. It smells of vegetables, cabbage. The mouthfeel is a bit oily, it has some spicy yeast, clearly the American Saison yeast (soapy).
Not good.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy light golden with a small white head. Aroma is very hoppy for a saison, with lots of saison yeast, piney hops, and biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, being totally inauthentic, with saison yeast, earthy hops, and a yeasty, grainy finish. Not a real saison, but as a yeasty imperial Belgian beer, it's quite nice. Solid.

Bottle - Earth yeasts and fruity sweetness. Clear gold with a decent white head. Fruity, touch of spice and a long effervescent finish. Solid.

Golden with just a touch of haze. The aroma has some plasticy phenols and a touch of pedio. Similar palate - some burnt stuff, astringent. The phenols are not dialed in here. There is a peppery character, again more pedio. OK, but not particularly accomplished.

Bottle from High Point, Vancouver
Hazy amber color with compact head. Mild aroma of malt and caramel. Lean body; the malt has a bready accent, and it doesn’t have any crisp/crackery quality expected in a modern IIPA; the bitterness is quite high, but there are no notable hop qualities.
Overall, a drinkable beer, nothing more, hence grossly overpriced.

Bomber. Pours a jet black color with a small brown head. A nice sweet fruity malty nose. The flavor is sharp hot spicy peppers, roast, vanilla, lots of hot spicy notes. Cocoa. Dry husky malts. OK, a bit too spicy for me. I really like spicy food, but spicy beer, not so much.

Orange with a white head. Citrus and toasted cereal grain. Not a lot of interesting flavor notes going on. Lingering bitterness with a bit of sweet malt, too. Solid if unremarkable.

Scorpion is cool but Sub Zero is awesome as well. Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. A light citrus and caramel nose. The flavor is hop resin, bitterness, caramel, biscuit, a bit green. Solid. 90s iipa like.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with full head. Aromas of dark fudgy chocolate, dry roasted malts, chalk, and burnt pepper. Flavors of black coffee, vanilla, roasted malts, and roasted pepper. Lingering burning finish but somewhat offset with the next sip.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, chili pepper, vanilla, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char/nuttiness, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aroma with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla/chili spice, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, chili pepper, vanilla, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char/nuttiness, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate roast/char bitterness and pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, chili pepper, vanilla, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla/chili spice, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and pepper spiciness balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness; lightly increasing through the glass. Warming pepper heat increases through the glass as well; but never overwhelming. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Overall this is a very nice spiced imperial stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla/chili spice, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on; despite the moderate pepper spice and building heat. A very enjoyable offering.
