Pours murky brown with a large lasting creamy head and big chunks of sediment.Nose shows loads of rich malt. Lots of caramel, prunes, figs, caramelised apples, treacle and a big melanoidin character.Similarly malty flavours, lots more of the above fruit and caramel, almost candy-like. Also a savoury character shows along with some soft alcohol. Finishes weakly though with a hint of cardboard.Nice med-high carbonation suits the beer well.

Bottle at the Japanese Craft beer tasting at the White Horse. It pours hazy dark amber, with red highlights, low carbonation and a foamy beige head. The nose is varnish, sweet caramel, marzipan, plum, Crème brulée, fig, salt and brown sugar. The taste is seaweed, melon, marmite, tart cherry, chocolate, peppered beef jerky, wood, ripe strawberry and a little alcohol warmth. Wow this is a very interesting brew! It is all about the umami.

Bottle at the White Horse. Big thanks to Doug, Jamie and Mark for arranging, facilitating and serving. Cheers Guys! Hazy red-amber beer. Big pale tan head which tastes sweet - cream with sugary bubblegum come red fruits come sweet red beans thing going on. Reminded me a little of some of those crazy Japanese Kit Kats. The beer is semi crisp with light carbonation. Sweet tangy vibrant generic fruits with cream and mild bubblegum in the background. Tiny bit of sherbet. An enigmatic beer full of flavour but hard to pin down. Who cares? Tastes great!

Draught at Wachi. Medium amber-orange with a tall, fine head. Pretty. Malty nose with bread and some honey. Sweet flavor with some fruit, a bit of a sour touch, and also quite bitter hops. Nice. More hoppy than a traditional maibock, but it works. Very bitter finish. Quite rich and malty as well. Different and nice. One of their best new beers of late.

Draught at Wachi. BIG coffee aroma, rich and roasty, with a bit of milk. Light, watery body in a stout overwhelmed by coffee flavor. Roasty wood, slight vanilla and milk too. Way to othin, and not much real stout character to go with your coffee.

Big coarseish head. Yellow body with light carbonation. Sharp papery waxy aroma. Weird. Dry grassy floral taste with citric papery notes. Sharpish mealy mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry waxy fruity aftertaste with resiny notes. Bone dry, and weird, but not bad. Lots of flavour. (0.33l bottle from Naito-san. Label features a uniformed koala, and says "Toara Toraku ? su biru".)

Bottle from Yamaoka-san. Light reddish gold, low bubbly head. Fruity, candy like aroma of hibiscus and lemon, grapes, herbs. Slight sweetness, fruity flavor with butter and grain. More fruity than herbal, with sour lemon. Nicely sour, but strange, with a spicy, peppery rather bitter finish. Refreshing enough, though not really all that beer-like, and I don’t think it really works, even though it isn’t terrible.

On tap at Barley. Light amber color with a clear, low, thick, head. Caramel malt nose. Slightly sweet, malty flavor. Caramel is restrained, with a bit of cherry. Ok malt, but not really rich enough to balance the strong hopping. Body is a bit too light. Strong bitterness, especially at the finish. Decent, but needs more Vienna malt character.
