Description
Whiplash began as a side project for Alan & Alex back in 2016. Both working in brewing already, they rented tanks at the weekend and released single batch small releases for fun from their own place of work and other friend’s breweries around Ireland. Professional beer dudes who were gypsying for fun. Things escalated and by the end of 2017 Whiplash was its very own pain in the neck with the guys going full time, brewing Whiplash beer all over Ireland and Europe. 2019 saw the two complete their microbrewery build and establish Ballyfermot, Dublin as Whiplash headquarters complete with their own custom designed brewhouse delivering small batches of big beers. Now with a home, a kit and a small crew: Whiplash are very much the Dublin brewery at the forefront of all that’s modern in Irish beer.

Can at LKS. It pours hazy red - brown with medium bubbly off-white head. The aroma is soft, bitter - sweet, raisin, dried fig, brown bread, light spice, toasted nut and rye. The taste is bitter - sweet, brown bread, toasty, warming alcohol, spice, dried fruits, fig, light spice and rye with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a huge amount of depth, but drinkable nonetheless.

Can shared in Hackney - thanks to Kenneth. Pours clear copper with a slim, off-white head. The aroma holds litly toasted bread, a little earth, caramel, faint oxidation. Medium to big sweet flavour with moderate toffee, ripening berries, brown bred, low bitterness. Medium to full bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Alright balance in the finish, hints of warmth, more caramel and berries. Fairly basic overall.

Can. Hazy deep amber beer, small cream colour head. Smooth semi dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Airy sweet dry malts. Sweet esters and then some mildly spicy bubblegum esters. Light floral fruits. Pleasant fig. Light dry finish. Notably light, quite enjoyable.

Can. Cloudy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and a little fluffy, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, sweetish, well integrated vanilla. Orange and tangerine hops that are both sweet and sharply citric. Nice light sherbet touch. A little hop spice and a little bitterness on the finish. Nicely done. A deft example of the sub style of Ice Cream IPAs. Sweet but still hoppy and well joined up.
