Description
Whiplash began as a side project for Alan & Alex back in 2016. Both working in brewing already, they rented tanks at the weekend and released single batch small releases for fun from their own place of work and other friend’s breweries around Ireland. Professional beer dudes who were gypsying for fun. Things escalated and by the end of 2017 Whiplash was its very own pain in the neck with the guys going full time, brewing Whiplash beer all over Ireland and Europe. 2019 saw the two complete their microbrewery build and establish Ballyfermot, Dublin as Whiplash headquarters complete with their own custom designed brewhouse delivering small batches of big beers. Now with a home, a kit and a small crew: Whiplash are very much the Dublin brewery at the forefront of all that’s modern in Irish beer.

Can from O’Brien’s, Athlone [280516]
Light orange, murky, no head
Aroma of sweet fruits, orange, very strong nose, superb for abv
Taste of citrus zest, soft grassy hops, very light malt background, bitter grapefruit orange, very hoppy
Palate - Soft carb, medium thin body, sweet with bitter hops, good texture. Finish of bitter zest, a bit creamy
Overall - Very good for the abv, like the addition of wheat and oats

At a tasting, many many thanks, smallish creamy head, lightly hazy lightish orange color, aroma of pomelo, onion and pine, with some tropical fruits in the back, dominant onion flavor with some tropical fruits, medium bitterness, light bodied. Excellent and really sessionable for a DIPA.

Can sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. Slightly hazy golden. Great hoppy aroma full of overripe tropical fruits. a bit oniony. Flavor has mild sweetish malt, very fruity hops, and a mild to moderate bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Very good, easy-drinking and refreshing.

330ml can brought back from Fran Well Easterfest. Alex Lawes brewed and canned it the week before, can’t get much fresher than that. Unbelievable grapefruit and passion fruit aroma. Equally delicious flavour, nice simple malt bill doesn’t overshadow the hops but compliments perfectly. A true rival to OF&F here. Well done Alex, can’t wait to try the porter.

Keg @ Black Sheep, Dublin [210114]
Very dark brown, rich beige creamy head, good lacing
Aroma - big rich roast coffee hit, rich dark malts, some earthy malts, bit nutty
Taste - Wow heavy at first, but get into it quickly, rich dark malts, bit earthy, rich deep roast coffee, dark chocolate, powdery cocoa, this is nice, lots of coffee, big flavours
Palate - soft carb, medium body, rich texture. Finish as main flavour, clinging dark malts on the palate, smooth chewy texture
Overall - I only got the last bit out of the keg [1/5 pint], heavy for 6%, rich, like the coffee. Not a fan of ’thin’ stouts - this is rich....heavy at first but the palate adjusts quickly. It’s getting the 4....
