Handle in Robbie’s bar, Hanmer Springs. Mild milk chocolate nose. Dark red/brown beer with thin collar of suds. Light body, little fizzy notes. Distant malt background with tinny notes at the end. Certainly easy-drinking but instantly forgotten.

Clear deep amber colour, small frothy white to off-white head, settles quickly. Shy nose, malty, caramel, bit toasted. Flavour light medium sweet and bitter, malty, caramel. Light sweetbitter finish, herbal notes, bit watery, not an IPA at all but drinkable anyway.

Butilka: Clear, deep amber coloured, lazy carbonation, rapidly collapsing off-white head; mild sweetish-caramelly nose, some vegetables detectable, but in opposite to the vegetables are the hops very hard to find; mild sweetish-bitter flavour, light bodied; a faint malty bitterness shows up short caramelly finish. An IPA? Oh no…

Lager? Ale? Hard to tell. Bland, with some weak malt flavor. Not much else to speak of.

330ml bottle into glass. Head gone instantly, very little carbonation. No lacing, amber colour. Does not taste like a pale ale at all. It’s a kind of almost beer. Not offensive. Not good either. A darkish flat lager.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige and short foamy head. Slightly sugary, earthy and mildly roasted malty aroma with hints of chocolate, traces of dried fruits and wax. Sweet flavour, light bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark and slim, slightly roasted malty base with notes of chocolate and subtle fruity flavours; almost watery and slightly roast-malty finish. Not overly entertaining. 22.VIII.14

330ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, dark brown colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Dark malty aroma has fruity hints of plum, black cherries, dark berries, cautious hints of chocolate, blunt remnants of their grainy origin. Taste is initially dry, roasty dark malty, minimally fruity and metallic, the middle part is characterised by a waxing and waning, slightly artificial, moderately sweet milk chocolate note, the finish is again more fruity, minimally metallic, cautious hints of plum and dark berries. Quite flavourful for its 4% abv, but still rather light for a full-blown Porter.
