Description
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery leads the Craft Beer Revolution in Ontario. Brewing radical Beers and creative Ales right on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004, the Flying Monkeys was the first Ontario Craft Brewery to truly recognize the need to overthrow the conservative regime of macro-brews and timid small batch taste-a-likes and create a new Culture of Craft Brewing in our province.

Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company, and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys late in 2008, we gave rise to the the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario.

Originally rated December 2009. This is their first beer under the name "Flying Monkey" since they changed it at the beginning of 2009 (from Robert Simpson). Pours an amber colour with an off-white head that is creamy, has great retention and nice sticky lacing. The nose is a beautiful blend of the hop (which is not overpowering) with some mild spices, caramel and vanilla. Medium-bodied with a dry mouthfeel created by the hop. Hoppy taste with a little roasted malt and coffee in the background. The oak/vanilla flavours come out in the aftertaste. A pretty interesting "almost pale ale" that surprises for an Ontario beer.

A reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. Lightly hopped malt aroma with faint signs of sulfur. In mouth, a surprisingly solid ale with good floral hops, over the biscuitty malts, well balanced and classic APA. Bottle from LCBO,

Bottle: Poured a copper color ale with a generous head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of medium bitter hops with some floral notes is actually better then I had hoped. Taste is also a very nice balanced mix between some caramel malt notes with a nice touch of citrus and bitter hoppy notes. Body is just about right with good carbonation. Well done for the style with good quaffing quality.
