Sample at the brewpub: This brew is a flat black color with a medium creamy beige head that is gone pretty fast. Small blobs of lacing race down the sides of the glass. Roasted coffee and malt aroma. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture. Malt and coffee flavors dominate, and there is some dark chocolate behind it all. The finish is soft and sweet, with just a bit of coffee on the back end. Not a medal-winner in my book but pretty good.

5.8
Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 6

Sample at the brewpub: This beer is a light and clear amber/orange color with a medium thin off-white head. Thin spotty lacing. Sweet caramel and malt in the nose. On the light side for the style, with a bittersweet malt and hops flavor. The finish is sweet and short, with the hops struggling to linger. All in all this one is unremarkable.
