Bottle at home in London. Pours a slightly hazy orange gold with a medium head. The citrus hops just leap from this beer. Some sharp grapefruit and lemon, grass, pine, caramel. Very sweet flavor but you almost don’t notice at the bitterness is so robust. Very earthy bitters, rindy citrus, some oily resins, bit of heavy honey and bread. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Oily hops to finish, slightly sticky, lots of earth, pine needles, some dry grass, malty sugars. Also some toasty malts. Boy, this is a nicely layered beer. I can feel the enamel getting stripped off my teeth. Super. (23 May 2011, score: 4.3)
Having another bottle, on 8 June 2015. And this most recent batch is on par with the other one. Supremely juicy, succulent. Just enough bitterness and sweetness to set the stage for the hops - which do sing. I suppose the mark of a good beer is, roughly, two-fold: how drinkable is the beer, and how much do you enjoy drinking it. (A watery beer is, objectively, very drinkable - but I might not love drinking it.) This IPA tops out in both categories: it is an absolute joy to drink. (8 June 2015, score: 4.4)
