Description
Located on the Marcle Ridge, Herefordshire's heartland of cider and perry making, Lyne Down grows 30 different cider apples and perry pears.
Ian Marshall and Sabine Darrall bought The Cider Barn in July 2015. Although not setting out to purchase a cider business, we quickly discovered the history of the land and orchard.
The traditional mixed orchard had been previously been planted by the late Jean Nowell. Jean had been instrumental in promoting cider and perry and had been a mentor to many well know local producers.
We are a small family business and at busy times of the year like harvest time we all have to lend a hand to get the apples picked and pressed. During harvest time Joe can usually be found on his hands and knees sorting and picking apples whilst Ian assumes a managerial role!

Taste is sweet, fruity apple, mellow, soft tannin, along with some initial cardboard & biscuit oxidised notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation, medium-sweet finish. Quite OK

29/1/2020. From Bag in a Box at the 13th Colchester Winter Ale Festival. Pours clear pale amber with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of funky apple, touch of sulphur and cider vinegar. Light sweetness and medium tartness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Crisp with quite a sharp tart finish. Not bad.

BIAB at York Beer & Cider Festival 2019. Clear golden amber colour, no head and aroma of tannic apple. Taste is tangy apple, leathery funky, some solvent with fruity, drying earthy tannins. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, low carbonation, dry tangy tannic finish. Very drinkable. Well worth badgering the bar staff to get from round the back!

500ml bottle drunk at home. Pours gold, crisp but relatively bland taste. Initial fruitiness seems to disappear as you work through leaving you somewhat disappointed. Nice enough but lacking a little something.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a pale yellow with quite some floaties. Heavy acetone aroma. Medium body, hardly any carbonation, sweet rotten fruit, acetic acid covered by sugar. A typical rustic British farmhouse style. 251111

Bottle. A clear one, except for a lot of chunks escaping the bottom of the bottle. Pale golden in color. The aroma has a sulphury touch to go with the pears. Sweetish and with some acetone. Pleasant mouthfeel, semi-sweet and nicely carbonated, with flavors of pears, white sugar and some sulphur. Quite drinkable, but a bit too chemical to get a higher rating. 111125
