Description
The Spoetzl Brewery - named after its original brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl, was founded in Shiner, Texas in 1909; hence their brand name for their beers - Shiner. Spoetzl is the oldest independent brewery in the State of Texas that began its storied history by brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for the many German and Czech settlers in the state. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the leading independent brewers in the country. The brewery is 100% family-owned and is a certified craft brewery by the Brewer’s Association. Every drop of Shiner is proudly brewed in Shiner.

Brown with orange highlights and a large foamy tan head that lingered. Sweet and toasty with tobacco, fruit, but, caramel and mild astringency. Very long finish. Medium bodied and smooth.

Another light summer 12 oz can from the mixed 6 pack. Very mixed berry heavy aroma. A bit on the artificial side. Flavor is very mild, almost watery. Mixed berry soda water with a touch of a wheat grain background. Cool and refreshing in the heat, so this 6 pack once again reminds me that these beers have a potential to be pretty good when enjoyed in the right conditions.

12 oz can from the 6 pack Shiner beer flight. Ideal choice in the Texas heat I'm sure, but its 80 here, so close enough. Cool and refreshing lime with an appropriate amount of sea salt impression. Cool and crisp margarita front. Somewhat dry finish. Refreshing, and at 4%, no surprise this goes down easy. Pretty decent overall. Must be ice cold on a hot day to get this one in my hand.

12 oz can from the 6 can mixed 6 pack. Basically a Shiner take home flight, which I can get on board with. Might be the only case that I can get 6 ratings off a single pre packaged 6 pack. I cracked this after being in the sun all morning and afternoon, and honestly, a brew called Agua Fresca sounded like it would be bad at all. The good: refreshing. Flavorful, though all fruit. Cool minty melon and some lime juice. Bit of a bubble gum on the palate. Drinks easy I suppose. The less than good: this resembles beer in no way for me. Very light. Watermelon lime seltzer is what I would have guessed in a blind. Overall, it is what they say it is beyond the beer part. Go pull some weeds in the heat, and this will instantly gain points on almost anyone's scale.

19.2 oz. can from HEB, Boerne, TX. Pours a clear bronze color with a tight beige head and great retention. Great lacing too. Hop oil aroma. Bitter hops flavor with a strange dirty character to it. Maybe that's the cactus water? It's not improving the experience. The 9.5% ABV is noticeable, but tolerable. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall not an enjoyable experience.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a super sweet Hershey chocolate syrup. Flavor is pretty much sweet chocolate syrup. Way too sweet to be enjoyable.
