Description
The Spoetzl Brewery - named after its original brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl, was founded in Shiner, Texas in 1909; hence their brand name for their beers - Shiner. Spoetzl is the oldest independent brewery in the State of Texas that began its storied history by brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for the many German and Czech settlers in the state. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the leading independent brewers in the country. The brewery is 100% family-owned and is a certified craft brewery by the Brewer’s Association. Every drop of Shiner is proudly brewed in Shiner.

6-pack sent by Shiner for my comment. The Bruja's Brew iteration of the TexHex series. Pours hazy but not overcast, with a thick, slightly fizzy head. Smell is mainly from the Amarillo: piney, resiny, with a note of animal dander. Intended as a big hop blaster, with bitterness alongside the pine and resin on the tongue. Can't figure out with the cactus water is for; perhaps that's the note of fruit I pick up. Malts are toasty but light, to stay away from the bad side of these hops.

355ml can from National Brewery Centre, Burton on Trent. Pours clear mahogany, fleeting bubbles atop that fail to form a head. Mild caramel aroma. Taste presents a confident caramel character, soft carbonation, moderately sweet. Fine overall.

Refrigerated 12 oz brown bottle poured into a glass. Slightly hazy deep golden with small white head. Aroma is wheat esters, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is wheat esters and berries (black berries?).

Dark brown with a medium sized foamy tan head. Sweet and tangy with cherry, sugar, a bit of oak and a hint of nut. Medium finish and body.

Pretty foul. Some light cinnamon but tastes a little rotten. Some light orange peel. Murky brown pour with ok head. Tangy cloying finish. Not something you want to drink a lot of. #15 in the Brew Shop Advent calendar and the first real dud.

12 ounce can from Festival Northland, 12/5/21. Clear red, large frothy tan head, good retention. Aroma of very strong cocoa, vanilla, nuts, dried fruit. Taste is cocoa, vanilla, honey, sweet fruits. Slick. Over-cocoa-ed, but, it lives up to its concept. Actually pretty nice,
