C: Fast gone cream-coloured head over deep dark cola-coloured beer. 4/5 N: Sweet, bready, liquorice, parsley, candi syrup. 6/10 T: More dark bread, liquorice, leafy; much less sweet than the nose suggested, however, partly thanks to a fine CO²-induced acidity. Breadcrust, light roast. Nice balance! 7/10 MF: Medium bodied at best, spritzy carbonation. Served cold, almost refreshing. 3/5 O: Not too sweet Doppelbock, good. But if they wanted really to get in the Poe spirit, instead of just wordplay, why not age it in an Amontillado cask for real? 14/20

Sampled as RavenBeer Dark Usher C: Head gone in seconds over clear, cola-coloured beer. 4/5 N: Black candi sugar, syrupy; old, wet autumn leaves, caramel. 6/10 T: Slight acidity, slight caramel, but hardly any sweetness. Bit cola-like. 7/10 MF: Light body, light slickness, weak carbonation. 3/5 O: Generally a bit weak. And as to a dark Kölsch… Donnerwetter! 13/20
