12 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours an opaque bright ruby red with a small white head. Aroma of wild, tart red berries, moderate funk, and wild yeast notes. Flavour is quite tart and dry, with completely unsweetened sour cherries, low-to-moderate funk, low acidity, and a bit of wild yeast. Extremely dry, with no sugar left unattenuated. Very drinkable, dry sour. Great stuff.

A lightly hazed golden saison with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, a smooth fruity malt with grassy notes, bananas, cloves, nice. In mouth, a smooth spiced saison with cloves, bananas, veering on weizen.

Bouteille 341ml.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow with white haze ale with a medium size pure white foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of wheat with light bready yeast ester and some coriander. Taste is a nice mix between some thin wheat malt and some coriander and orange peel notes with solid ester form the yeast and a light tart finish. Body is definitely a bit thin but carbonation is good. Not a good staple of the style but I still quite enjoyed that one.

Is this an improved version or just another way of naming the original? Aroma has again a lot of grapefruit with touch of lemon and herbal notes. We can also find a slight touch of cereal but less than the original. nose is very close to the original but sticking out a bit more. Clear golden / blond with creamy, thick and long lasting head. Lacing is nice too. Attack is showing sharp notes of citrus and green grass. Bitterness is strong and very long lasting. A lot of herbal and grassy notes. Hops are all over the place. To my opinion this beer has a lack of complexity. Same as for it’s little sister ’’La Ruine Papille’’. This is not an improvement. It looks to me that it’s the same beer.

Bouteille 341ml.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark color porter with a large dark white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with light black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix between medium bitter roasted malt notes with light dry black chocolate notes. Body is about average with good carbonation (maybe even a tad too strong for style). Nothing extremely complex in this beer but well enjoyable nonetheless.

Aroma; Caramel, cherry and toffee. Typical aroma but not much developed and having difficulty sticking out. Visual: Black with red glints. Average creamy head, average lasting. Not much lacing either. Taste: Attack is cherry and dried fruits on a caramel basis. More hoppy than an average scotch ale with a bitterness finish, very long lasting and annoying. Texture is creamy and round, body is medium to full. Malty flavors are buried by strong and unpleasant hoppy finish. Caramel and toffee are not developing.

A blonde IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, nice piney floral hops with citrus notes and faint sulfur. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with floral resinous hops, lingering, nicely made. Bottle at Hivern?ale, Jan 25 2012.
