Manoir d'Apreval
Cidery
in Pennedepie,
Normandie,
France 🇫🇷
Associated Venue: Manoir d'Apreval
Established in 1998
Victor Révillon, the great-grandfather of Agathe Letellier, came to settle at the end of the 19th century in this corner of green nature where the climate softened by the sea air was favorable to the cultivation of fruit trees and 'breeding. From there was born a mixed farming operation on the 40 hectares of the time. An explorer businessman, he left the operation to farmers.
Polyculture operations lasted until 1998, when, on the initiative of the third and fourth generations of the cider estate, “Manoir d'Apreval” was founded. 17 varieties of cider apple trees and 4 varieties of juice pear trees, representing 1,800 trees, were planted.

500ml bottle from the producer. Pours unclear dark gold. Natural fruity tone with some farmyard horse blanket and a scrumpy air, medium juicy palate, fairly dry finish. Really very rare to find this kind of cider in France, wish there were more.

Bottle from the manoir. Clear golden. Sweet crispy apple, quite funky, woody, peach. It’s very aromatic and fruity, but also has solid farmyard character and quite some tannins. Great balance, solid medium bodied with quite some carbonation and over medium dry finish. Lovely stuff.

Bottle from the manoir. Explosive cork. Clear deep golden. Good barnyard funk, dry apple, lots of leathery tannins, apricot. Very aromatic, with a ton of dry tannins. Over medium dry. Nice stuff, lively dry finish, maybe even more dry than their Brut. Bit overcarbonated but otherwise great.

Bottle at home from the estate. Clear golden. Juicy apple, dusty funk, mineral, oaky tannins with a touch of leather but it’s more oak and dry funk that’s up front here. Almost medium sweet. Solid medium dry. Very classic stuff, nice.

2018 bottle, huge thanks to Tomo for sharing this with Marko and myself. Very pale greenish golden, foamy small head. Pear, perfume, wood and flower, green tea. Acidic, sour, sweet, candy-like. Moderate to high carbonation, puckering, thin, drinkable, finishes dry and sour.
