Prairie Berry Winery
Cidery
in Hill City,
South Dakota,
United States 🇺🇸
Associated Venue: Prairie Berry Winery
Established in 1999
With an affinity for the Midwest, a love of local, seasonal ingredients, and a thirst to carry on a five-generation tradition of handcrafting beverages in South Dakota, the answer was clear. On that day in 1999, Prairie Berry Winery was born.
Today, from a 20,000 square foot state of the art wine production facility in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Prairie Berry Winery has grown into one of the most successful wineries in the region, winning over 1,000 awards and producing some of the most popular and award-winning wines in the Midwest, including the widely acclaimed Red Ass Rhubarb.
Fifteen years after starting Prairie Berry Winery, the natural next step for Sandi and her husband was opening Miner Brewing Company in 2013, located next door to the winery near Hill City.
The following year, they expanded east to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and opened Prairie Berry East Bank. Four years later, they moved across Sioux Falls to the Western Mall and reopened as Miner Brewing Company and Prairie Berry Winery Taproom.

Sampled at the winery. Clear yellow, with a few bubbles and good legs, but no head. The nose is honey and roses, with a distinct note of peaches. Unabashedly sweet, with no hint of bitterness or tartness. Thick and syrupy palate, with a lightly acidic feel. Good mead. Peach isn’t my favorite, but it’s clearly well made.

Sampled at the winery. Clear, pinkish-yellow color, with a few bubbles, but no head. The aroma is wildflowers and honey, with a sharp hint of berries. Lovely, off-dry flavor, and just a bit of tartness. Fairly thick and syrupy, with a crisp, acidic bite. Quality mead.

Draft/Fest. A- Peach, soda water. A- Clear color, clear liquid, no head. T- Peach, seltzer water, honey. P- Light body, thin texture, high carbonation, refreshing finish. O- Surprisingly decent actually. Normally not a fan of meads but this one was tasty. Right about of flavor. A little high on carbonation almost making it feel like soda water but otherwise drinkable.

Tasting at Papsø
Hazy red color. The aroma has light fruit, but it’s also puckery. Sweetish fruity soft-drink flavor. Not a Mead, and not interesting.
