Bottled@RBESG’06. Pitch black, stready cream tan head. Parfumic alcohol and madeira wine in the nose. Liquerish palate, alcohol, toffee, some coffee. Nicely complex but maybe a bit overrated (when it was rated 4.13).

Dark brown color, with an off white head. Ginger, fruitcake and oranges jumping out of the nose. I love it, Christmas in a bottle! Med-full bodied with an underlying sweet maltiness of spices, cinnamon and fruitcake. Nice warming christmas cake finish. The nose was a bit better than the mouth, but overall still pretty good. FYI, My mom bought this in bottle in Canberra

Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy dark amber, rich head. Obvious banna aroma. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel and notes of toffee. Cloves and marshmallows remains until the finish. Avoids the trap of getting too sweet that many dunkelweizens fall into.

Bottled (2005 vintage) Dark ruby, clear, small creamy head. Smokey with thick malty body. Soft and somewhat buttery, lightly syrupy mouthfeel. A full bodied malt accented beer, low on bitterness, where the alcohol adds some peppery notes.

Bottled. Dark black, brown head. Rich aroma of salty licorice. Coffee and syrupy toffee dominates. The body is full, it’s very roasty with notes of plums. Themouthfeel is filling, but fairly clean. Very rich and true to style, event hough perhaps slightly more hoppy than it’s cousins around the Baltic.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear dark amber, small but lasting head. Toffee aroma. Strong butterscotch flavour. Sweet with fairly soft mouthfeel. Roasty and quite thick with a fair amount of grassy hops and notes of licorice. Complex and interesting, but more of a bock than a Märzen.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear chestnut brown. Roasty malt dominates the beer from nose to finish. The body is light, the mouthfeel clean and hard and the bitterness is balanced to a level suiting it’s light body. A good mild however requires a soft mouthfeel, when this is hard and clean, creating a slight metallic tone. Of course serving it with CO2 pressure doesn’t help it.

Bottled. Dark black. Rich aroma of raspberry & cream liqueur, coffee and chocolate. Sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Flavour is all milky chocolate with rum-raisin. Toffeeish finish. Strange, but fairly good.

Draught at the brewpub. Nut brown, clear, small creamy head. Beechwood smokey nose. Dryish with light-medium body and clean mouthfeel. A salty finish where the beechwood smoke lingers. Flavourwise it’s near perfect, but it lacks the soft mouthfeel and gentle malt character of the top examples of the style.

Bottled. Dark brown. Aroma of sage and nutmeg. Sweet and roasty with mild, rounded mouthfeel and rich malt character. Warming and very enjoyable with some herbal bitterness in the finish. The balance between the malt and spices are excellent, and from all the good beers I’ve tried from this brewer this is probably my favourite.
