Description
Craft is the first Greek microbrewery that started the microbrewing revolution back in 1997 by producing for the first time in Greece fresh limited production beers at premises accessible to the general public.

During our exciting learning journey throughout the years, we developed a profound knowledge of beer, raw materials, the trade secrets of brewing, and we developed several innovative and traditional recipes.

One of four beers on tap from this brewery offered at a habour side bar in Chania, Crete during September 2008. Poured into a vase shapped brewery logo’ed glass. It was a glowing reddy brown colour in the afternoon sunlight, clear and clean looking. A smallish cream head sat on top. The beer was cold (the weather hot), so it was difficult to pick up any huge aromas. I did detect some caramel and possibly some hops too. The caramel I’d found in the aroma came through into the taste, but it wasn’t a sweet tasting beer by any means. Crisp and refreshing with a medium body feel to it. Although it was just what I needed at the time, it wasn’t/isn’t a great beer that I must have again. In fact I didn’t have another one while staying on Crete, so that tells it’s own story.

500 ml shared bottle, as Craft Weiss Beer, thanks to our beerpal Jan Magnus who brought it from Greece. ABV is 5.0%. Cloudy orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma with notes of malt and wort, overshadows the typical h.w. notes of cloves and banana. Also notes of over-ripe berries. Wheaty flavour, refreshing, with a more pronounced hoppy bitterness than in many other hefeweizens.

Keg at Craft Brewery, Athens. It pours amber, with a thick yellow-white head. The nose is smoke, bonfire, burnt firewood, bbq and bacon. The taste is brown bread, yeast toasted malt, light metal, only a light smokiness, wood, earth and manure. Light to medium body and fairly high carbonation. Smells great, but taste doesn’t quite live up to it.
