Based on experience with their other beers, I wasn't expecting much from this at all, so I suppose my low standards for this brewery helped me to enjoy this ale a little more - cloudy golden with a huge head (I had to suck the rising foam from the top of the glass several times) - aroma is dominated my, you guessed it, apricots - flavor is quite similar to Magic Hat #9, but lacking much character (not that #9 is great or anything) - only a touch of apricot is evident, and the rest of the flavor is somewhat ho-hum - there is a surprising creaminess, especially in the finish, that makes the beer a bit more enjoyable - decent ale.

The best I've yet had from middle ages - creamy and chocolatey - finish is espresso and sugar - relatively chewy for a sweet stout - still doesn't give me any faith in this brewer.

Orangey-amber. Malty, butterscotchy aroma. Palate has a slight marmalade note, with nuts, earthy sweetness of dark malts. Slight rye whiskey note.

Dark amber-brown. Lightly tanned head. Rich woody aroma with caramel maltiness. Slight chocolatey notes, rich hops. Smooth. I like this balanced, "English-style" Imperial IPA...reminds me a little of last year's Big A from Smuttynose.

Pours a lighter brown with some orange and reds, decent off-white head, quite clear. Starts out with a sweet malt flavor, lots of sweet raisins. Body is medium and as it finishes, a good dose of dry, moderately acidic hops hit. Biggest problem was that the flavor tasted rather stale. Hops had a dried out, old taste. Had a fairly creamy, somewhat wispy texture. Smells of sugary, dark malt and maybe a bit of light soy aroma, fairly meaty.

Dark amber colour with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Super hoppy aroma-definately showing pine and perfume notes. Medium-bodied; Sticky sweet flavour, full of pine cones. The spicy flavour is intertwined with a nice malt balance. Aftertaste bittered from the hops and sweetened a bit from the sugars. Overall, a good beer, but I don't typically like the style. For the style, it is a bit sub-par, but not a bad beer at all. I got this pint on draught at MacGregor's in Rochester, New York on 13-November-2003.

Amber, with a bubbly, uneven head. Slightly phenolic, with caramel, plums and some underlying nuttiness. Apples. Earthy malt palate - apple, plum, some wood, bitter chocolate.

Finally, a good looking and good smelling beer from Middle Ages...i've been waiting for this for a long time!!! Dark brown in colour, very close to opaque throughout. A nice brown head which lasts for a long time and looks nice as it laces the glass. The smell is actually very nice and full of cherries, grapes, caramel and a bit of roasted malt. The taste is a bit disapointing, definately sour and acidic, but the aftertaste is bitter and malty. A wierd one throughout, but also metallic and flat tasting. Neat idea, but its too bad that Middle Ages didn't do it too well. Worth trying if you think it will be 'neat and different', but i'd rather take a good Scotch and a good Porter in two seperate glasses. I had this from at 12 ounce bottle purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Tried on cask! Not too bad. Was hoping for a bit more. This had a timid body to it. I guess if middle ages wanted to produce a nondescript beer, they did a great job. It had the usual warm hop bitterness, and even a bit of oatmeal cookie taste towards the end, not quite creamy. There are certainly much better bitters out there.

A light bitter, not very flavorful - slight spiciness - a tiny sweetness that mingles well with the doughy flavors that come into play - pretty well done, but lacking anything that makes me want to revisit it another time.
