About
Moulin Brewery is a tiny craft brewery, which began life back in 1995. The story goes, that the then owner of the Moulin Hotel, Chris Tomlinson, discussed with regulars to the Moulin Inn what he might do with the old stables at the back of the hotel. Out of these discussions came the idea of having a micro brewery and the birth of the successful brewery.

The present five barrel brewing plant is housed in what were originally a coach house and stable buildings attached to the hotel. Since its initial establishment the brewery has purchased additional fermentation tanks for added capacity but the average brew session remains at five barrels. The brewery's annual output is about 500 barrels per year.

On tap (at the brewpub): Deep golden, persitent small head; honey and sweet hops in the aroma, underpinned by a shy vinous fruitiness; light bodied, moderate, almost dry bitter flavour; bitter, slightly tart finish. O.K., a decent thirst-quencher........

Cask (handpump) @ Moulin Hotel/ Pub, Moulin by Pitlochry PH16. Deep dark colour with no head. Roasted barley and chocolate, nut nose. No carbonation. Toasted malt flavour with chocolate and toffee hints that develop into coffee later on. Dry and full bodied on the palate.

Cask (handpump) @ Moulin Hotel/ Pub, Moulin by Pitlochry PH16. Dark mahogany colour. Some honey in the aroma together with malt. Medium bitter. With a medium long aftertast. Very nice ale

Cask (handpump) @ Moulin Hotel/ Pub, Moulin by Pitlochry PH16. Reddish amber colour. Fruity aroma with barley and lychees. Obviously very fresh. Dry minerally finish. Good stuff.

An amber- brown beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma is of acidic of licorice and caramel. The flavor is of roasted caramel on a dry background leading up to a hoppy end, but the body is thin.

Dark reddish-brown. Good toasted cream head. Complex aroma shows toffee, caramel, dark chocolate, dying ember-style smoke nuances. Lightish body belies the luscious earthy, sweet chocolate malt flavours. Finishes with a light brown sugar note, and a little fizzy. There is a lot of potential in the malts but they aren't given the proper opportunity due to lack of residual sugars and too high a carbonation level.

Sampled cask conditioned at the Moulin Brewery. Dark mahogany colour. Some honey in the aroma. Ful bodied. Roasty with a hint of smoke. Rich malt accent. Reminding of a good malt whiskey. Medium bitterness. Lingering aromatic finish. An excellent rich ale!

Mahogany coloured. Roasty and malty with above medium body. Salty and flavourful with a hint of smoke. Medium bitterness. A full flavoured well balanced ale.

The lightest offering from the brewery. Golden colour. Bready aroma. Sweetish, somewhat ashy light body, lightly malty, a hint of vanilla. Dryish finish.
