Momo Sushi Shack, Brooklyn bottle: pours golden with a noce and very long lasting white head. Aroma is citrus, pineapple, flowers. Taste is very bright and fruity. Nice hop bitterness. Tasted very fresh despite the voyage across the sea. Very satisfied and not expecting all that much.

Ozeno Yukidoki Weizen 5% Bottle on sale from Yamaoka & served in my weizen glass. It pours an opaque gold with a dense eggshell white head of foam. The nose is peppery, celery & coriander with a sharp edge to it. Medium bodied with a smooth wheatiness to it & a raspy active carbonation. The taste is sweet coriander & cloves but with some buttery diacetyl. Passable I suppose.

33cl bottle (I think, it was a strange shaped bottle) at Raku in Dupont, Washington DC. Poured a slightly hazy yellow color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was some light sweet malts, nice earthy and some citrus hops. Flavor was light malt, some earthy and tropical hop character. Better than I expected.

Bottle (from Japan)
Golden color, small white head. Aroma has tropical fruits, resiny hop oily stickyness. Medium-bodied. Front shows that lots of hops have been used. Very oily, resiny flavor. Citrus, fruityness. Then has enough sweet fruityness to make aftertaste less bitter. Interesting flavors and aromas for "only" 5% beer.

I picked up a bottle of this IPA from Ryujin Brewery (Gunma) at Yamaoka in Kyoto. Served in a shaker half-pint glass it pours a lovely clear copperish gold with a great hop bouquet of pine, citrus & resin/dank notes - good stuff. The medium body is smooth and the taste is a dank bitter pine with a sweet bitter finish. It’s really well balanced. This is a really solid Japanese IPA you don’t hear much about down in Kansai. I’ll have to try more beers from these guys. At 5 % I nominate this as a good sessionable Japanese IPA.

330 ml bottle from a mall in Utsunomiya. Pours hazy brown with a small head that is gone in a few seconds. Aroma is quite faint, some yeast, a bit of sour alcohol, tropical fruits. Taste is more roasty, some toffee and black bread - mixed with some notes of sour yeast. A bit of hop bitterness remaining on your tongue at the end. Overall pretty decent, nicely drinkable beer.

Backlog. On tap @ Popeye, June 2008. Copper to brown color. Aroma’s: sweet malts, sweet fruits. Flavor is mainly sweet, with a hint of bitterness. Medium bodied. Finishes moderate bitter. More Belgian style strong ale than a UK or US Barley Wine, but OK enough.
